About this Program

Air pollution is one of the heaviest burdens frontline communities carry. Every one of our member organizations works on it, from monitors on their own rooftops to permitting rules in Springfield.

Pollution comes from smokestacks, and diesel trucks route through the same neighborhoods all day to serve warehouses sited there on purpose. Members are leading the push for a statewide Indirect Source Rule, backing the Clean and Equitable Transportation Act, and working to get Illinois to adopt Clean Vehicle Rules through the Pollution Control Board. The Chicago Truck Counts study puts numbers behind what residents have said for years.

Monitoring is how communities stop arguing about whether the air is bad and start arguing about what gets done. CEJN keeps members in the rooms where those rules get written.
